The useful question is not whether a website has an “AI-friendly” badge. It is whether the public page gives machines enough clear, consistent evidence to represent the business accurately.
What BoostGeo tested
BoostGeo evaluated 1,000 public local-business homepages across ten industries and ten major U.S. metro areas. It established representative evidence for 897 and kept 103 unable outcomes separate instead of scoring them as zero.
The websites were not necessarily bad
Most were functioning business websites. Many likely served human visitors every day. The recurring issue was subtler: important identity, metadata, and representation signals were incomplete or inconsistent for systems expected to retrieve and summarize the page.
What can leave machines guessing?
- A business name, service, or location that is implied rather than stated plainly.
- A title, main heading, and description that tell different stories.
- Missing or incomplete machine-readable identity.
- Social preview fields that omit the title, description, or image.
- Important facts spread across design elements without one consistent source.
What this does not prove
The study did not ask ChatGPT to recommend every business. It did not measure traffic, leads, rankings, revenue, or service quality. Website Readiness measures the evidence BoostGeo could retrieve and interpret from the captured homepage—not independent public AI visibility.
A clear website does not guarantee an AI recommendation. It gives retrieval and answer systems better evidence to work with.
The practical implication
Businesses do not need to redesign everything for a hypothetical robot. They should make accurate fundamentals unmistakable to everyone: who they are, what they do, where they work, why they are credible, and what the visitor should do next. Then they can express the same approved facts in metadata and structured data.
